At first, I wanted to film a project from inside my prison in Damascus,
to express my helplessness and the fear piled up before all these massacres.
But freedom came by surprise.
The rebels returned, furious,
they shattered all the doors.
I stepped into life as if I had been born again
a thin man, rusted, decayed, astonished.
The sunlight was blazing intensely,
and with difficulty I managed to open my eyes a little.
I saw the mountains stretching before me after a long absence.
I saw the country destroyed, and beautiful as ever.
And its people scattered,
without any barrier, without any identity.
I carried the camera and walked, filming it,
while I was almost swearing every day
that I was dead
and now I am lost, in complete freedom.
